There is a lot of information about you available over the internet.  Some of the information that is available would make it easy for someone else to "steal your identity."  The best recommendation to prevent this or at least to minimize the dangers is to check your credit reports regularly.  That is easy and free.  Just browse to annualcreditreport.com and sign in to get your free credit reports from each of the 3 major credit bureaus.  But if you only check it once per year, you might miss something.  Check it every four months by rotating among each of the bureaus and if you see anything suspicious, act immediately.  The crooks are out there but if you are careful and vigilant, you can minimize the damage.
