The second half of property taxes in Omaha are due July 31st. As if writing out those property tax checks isn't depressing enough, the following "blurb" from the taxfoundation.org site should make you feel better - and I'm being facetious in case you didn't know that.
Nebraska Property Taxes: Comparatively High
Nebraska is one of the 37 states that collect property taxes at both the state and local levels. As in most states, local governments collect far more. Nebraska's localities collected $1436 per capita in property taxes in fiscal year 2009, which is the latest year the Census Bureau published state-by-state property tax collections. At the state level, Nebraska collected $1 per capita during FY 2009, making its combined state/local property taxes $1437 per capita, ranking 17th highest nationally.
